Beer Review: Broken Bow Brewery, Barley Wine aged in Rye Whiskey, Bourbon & Red Wine Barrels

Overall: 4.75 out of 5, Smoothest Barley Wine I have ever tasted

Category: Barrel Aged Barley Wine

Appearance: Deep brown color,  off-white head with mild persistence

Aroma: Rye Whiskey dominates the aroma on first whiff, slight bourbon barrel mixes in later, just a hint of sweetness

Mouthfeel: Full bodied but not chewy, finishes dry

Flavors: Good amount of sweetness, carbonation is noticeable throughout, finishes dry. Amazing showcase for malt flavors. The flavors of the Rye, Bourbon and Red Wine barrels. This is a complicated beer

Aftertaste: Lingering oak barrel taste

Food Pairing: I don’t think I would try to pair this with food. It is a bad ass beer that stands alone.
