While in Pittsburgh, I checked out a Caribbean themed restaurant called Pirata. I decided to get a rum flight and chose the Zombie flight. It featured the original 1934 recipe developed by Donn Beach and two other variations harking back to 1950 & 1956. The original recipe does not hide rum flavors but the balance is dialed in so you could enjoy multiple drinks in a beach environment. The 1950 (middle glass in the picture) was a showcase for passion fruit and completely hid any rum flavors. The 1956 seemed to come back closer to the original recipe with more fruit flavors in the balance. All three drinks on their own were amazing, but trying them side by side was a real treat.
